WINDINGS SELECTED TO PRESENT AT MCMA TECHCON

The Motion Control & Motor Association (MCMA) will host their 26th Technical Conference (TechCon) on October 17, 2017 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As a leading stator, rotor and custom motor manufacturer, Windings has been selected to present during Tuesday’s afternoon technology sessions.

TechCon provides the latest updates on motion control, motors and related automation. Blaine Alderks, Product Development Engineer at Windings, will present on “Motor Slot Fill and Design for Manufacturability.” With extensive manufacturing experience in stator, rotor and motor assembly, Alderks is knowledgeable in design for manufacturability, motor topography and project management. In his role at Windings, Alderks has helped some of the world’s most innovative companies develop new motor designs and meet their cost, quality and delivery expectations.

The demand for higher power density in electric motors has made slot fill and design for manufacturability a critical consideration for motor designers. Today’s motor designers are challenged with high slot fill designs, which in turn affects the manufacturability of their stator. There are several different methods for calculating slot fill that Alderks will address during his presentation. “The most commonly made mistake is when copper fill is used for to determine manufacturability instead of the actual fill, which takes into account other factors such as insulation, spacers, liners and wedges.” said Alderks.

In addition to calculating a more accurate slot fill calculating slot fill, implementing some small design changes can dramatically affect the ability to achieve the desired fill. These changes and ideas will also be covered in the presentation followed by a question and answer session.

“Windings is involved in innovative work in regards to high slot fill and I am very excited to be able to present our capabilities to help others design for improved manufacturability.”

said Alderks about his upcoming speaking opportunity. Windings will also have a table at TechCon where attendees can stop and speak with experts and learn more about Windings’ capabilities and services. As a long-time member of the MCMA, it is important to Windings to participate in great events like TechCon. David Schauer, V.P. of Business Development at Windings said “MCMA enables an environment where our peers, suppliers and customers can learn and collaborate with each other on industry related topics and issues. MCMA presents a wide range of business and technical topics from which we can help each other to be successful within, and beyond our respective market areas.”
