Windings Welcomes Dr. Dan Vasile: Engineering Leadership for the Future of Motor Systems
Enhancing Engineering Execution with a Global Leader in Electromagnetic Systems
On October 20, 2025, Windings, Inc. proudly welcomed Dr. Dan I. Vasile as our new Director of Motor Solutions. With a career spanning three decades across North America and Europe, Dr. Vasile brings an unmatched level of technical, operational, and strategic expertise to our engineering team. His appointment is not only a reinforcement of Windings’ commitment to engineering excellence—it’s a defining moment as we continue to expand capabilities and align ourselves with the highest standards of motor solutions design and production.
Why This Hire Matters: Engineering Meets Execution
At Windings, we serve customers whose missions demand absolute reliability, precision, and performance. Our clients operate in some of the most technically rigorous sectors in the world—defense, aerospace, advanced air mobility, and energy systems. To meet these high-stakes requirements, Windings integrates deep engineering expertise with agile, customized production capabilities across our facilities in Minnesota, California, and Mexico.
In this context, the addition of Dr. Vasile is highly strategic. His leadership focuses on three key areas:
- Ensuring on-time, on-budget technical execution across all engineering projects
- Optimizing resource allocation and engineering capacity
With Windings’ continued growth and recent acquisitions enhancing our footprint across North America, Dr. Vasile’s arrival strengthens our ability to manage complex, multi-site programs while maintaining technical integrity and delivery precision.
A Career Built on Electromagnetic Innovation
Dr. Vasile holds a Ph.D. and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in electrical machines from the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, as well as a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Methodist University. His experience spans roles at global leaders including:
- Powertec Industrial Motors: Head of Engineering, overseeing design and testing of motors up to 700 HP
- Nidec Motor Corporation: Designed high-performance brushless DC and high-voltage induction motors
- FMC Technologies: Delivered 3.2 MW BLDC motors for critical oil & gas operations
- Motors Technology LLC: General Manager and VP of Engineering, providing electro-mechanical systems for energy, medical, military, and industrial applications
This wide-ranging technical background gives Dr. Vasile the ability to tackle complex multidisciplinary challenges—bridging mechanical, electrical, thermal, and magnetic domains of motor design. He’s worked on everything from compact, high-efficiency traction motors for EVs to megawatt-class systems for energy infrastructure.
What This Means for Windings’ Clients
Dr. Vasile’s presence directly enhances Windings’ already robust engineering services, which include electromagnetic design, FEA simulation, rapid prototyping, and advanced manufacturing. Under his leadership, clients can expect:
- Accelerated development timelines through streamlined engineering review gates and proactive risk management
- Greater design-for-manufacturability alignment, ensuring a smooth transition from prototyping to pilot and full-scale production
- Enhanced communication with technical stakeholders, especially for mission-critical and confidential projects
As Windings expands our capacity for both high-mix, low-volume programs and medium-volume manufacturing, the engineering rigor and execution discipline Dr. Vasile brings are essential to scaling successfully without compromising on quality or performance.
Thought Leadership in Magnetics and Motor Solutions
Dr. Vasile is not just an administrator—he’s an engineer’s engineer. With deep knowledge of permanent magnet and induction motor design, he’s well-positioned to contribute to Windings’ thought leadership in several critical areas, including:
- Slot fill optimization strategies for high torque density applications
- Carbon fiber magnet retention in BLDC motors operating at 100,000+ RPM
- Thermal design considerations for aluminum vs. copper magnet wire
- Design tradeoffs in V-shape IPM rotors for hybrid and electric propulsion systems
These are not just academic interests. They directly impact the design choices engineers must make when optimizing motors for performance, reliability, and cost. As a leader in engineering services, Windings—and now Dr. Vasile—will continue to provide the insight, analysis, and support that engineers (who prioritize success over cost) value most.
Setting the Stage for Windings’ Next Chapter
The addition of Dr. Dan Vasile comes at a transformative time for Windings. With new facilities in California and Mexico, an expanding client base in defense and aerospace, and a growing need for rapid engineering innovation, the demands on our engineering team have never been greater.
Dr. Vasile brings not only technical and operational acumen, but also a strong record of leadership and mentorship. His ability to engage, develop, and align technical teams will be a catalyst for continued excellence at Windings.
We’re proud to have him on board—and excited about what’s next.
