Processes

Processes

Here are some of the special processes that are required for the diverse product range manufactured at Windings. These processes can be customized as necessary to meet specific customer requirements.

Powder Coating

Powder coatings may be applied to provide a protective finish on the exterior of the motor. Powder coatings typically ranging from 0.004 to 0.008 inches thick. Coatings are applied with an electrostatic process and then heat cured. The coating adds to the cosmetic appearance and protects the external steel surfaces from rusting.

Magnet Bonding

Magnets are bonded in to the housing. Fixtures are used to hold the magnet in the proper positioning during the cure cycle. After curing, the magnets are force tested to assure a secure bond.

Armature Construction

Most aspects of the armature construction are unique. The coils are precisely wound on special fixtures, formed in to a cylinder shape, and attached to the commutator. The armatures are then wrapped with a fiberglass thread and or a fiberglass sheet. The armatures are then encased in one of several different resins.

Machining

Precise machining of armatures and housings is crucial to maintain tight tolerances and small air gaps. Commutators are precisely machined for proper brush seating.

Optional Feature Installation

Many of these motors can have optional features installed. Electric brakes and Encoders are two such optional features. These and any other additional components are installed and tested per the manufacturer's instructions.

Final Inspection and Performance Testing

Every unit undergoes a Quality Assurance review. Performance tests and mechanical inspections are derived specifically for each product. If requested, test results may accompany product shipments.
