Processes
Here are some of the special processes that are required for the diverse product range manufactured at Windings. These processes can be customized as necessary to meet specific customer requirements.
|

|
Lamination Bonding
Steel lamination are cleaned, aligned, coated with 3M Scotchcast 265 Powder Epoxy Coating (or Customer specified material), and heat cured to form bonded stack assemblies. Custom tooling and fixturing provide alignment to meet Customer requirements.

|

|
Insulating
Insulation is provided in multiple forms. Epoxy coatings, including 3M Scotchcast Powder Epoxy Coatings (260, 262, 5555), typically ranging from 0.008 to 0.012 inches thickness, are applied with a fluidized bed process and heat cured. If required, Dupont Nomex® or other insulating materials are available for specific applications.

Winding
Magnet wire winding may be accomplished in one one of two ways: The magnet wire may be precisely wound on a custom fixture. These coils may then be chemically or electrically bonded to produce a self-supporting coil. Magnet wire may also be wound in place over an insulated laminated core.

Varnishing
Not all assemblies will require varnishing. The varnish operation utilizes customer specified materials and processes. If necessary, Windings will recommend a varnish type and varnish method. Facilities are available for vacuum pressure impregnation (VPI), submersion, trickle down, and heat curing techniques. Wound assemblies can be encapsulated, as an addition or alternative to varnishing, with Customer specified potting materials.

Electrical Testing and Final Inspection
Appropriate measures are taken to assure each wound product satisfies all customer specifications. Depending on the product type, unique electrical and mechanical measurements are recorded. If requested, test results may accompany product shipments.
